It ...This was a very original and funny post, Ivan! It frankly had never occurred to me to think about what someone like Hitchcock would have done with JAWS. Your fantasy Bizarroworld scenario is insanely detailed and clever in its outline...I love it! I can't say whether Hitch's JAWS as you describe would have been as good a film as Spielberg's version (one of the best movies ever, IMO), but it would certainly be one I'd want to see.

Sadly, to me, Spielberg, while still a technical genius and a good director, just doesn't make films that soar anymore. JAWS, CLOSE ENCOUNTERS, RAIDERS...those were the days.

Inspired contribution to the Blogathon!

Jeff
thestalkingmoon.weebly.comJeff Flugelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06127134815672151999noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7488189244830405902.post-67638228110207128022012-07-12T01:22:58.645-07:002012-07-12T01:22:58.645-07:00Warm Greetings!

Ivan, after reading your absolutely fantabulo...Wow! Ivan, after reading your absolutely fantabulous "Alfred Hitchcock's JAWS," I'm wishing time machines really existed so your version of JAWS would become Hitchcock's ultimate thriller! I particularly like your description of Steven Spielberg as essentially "a hired hand who got lucky, really lucky."

Your suggestions for cast and crew are truly inspired. Heck, just imagining a teen Jack Wild as a pop-idol shark-snack Alex Kintner is worth the price of admission (so to speak), with Yvette Mimieux well-cast as a classic Hitchcock Blonde, and with music by one of my faves, Bernard Herrmann, being the icing on the cake!

Terrific as Spielberg's direction was, your "what if?" Hitchcock version of JAWS now has me wondering what JAWS would have been like if it'd been directed by John Sturges or Dick Richards (I loved his FAREWELL, MY LOVELY). I was also very pleased to see that if you had your way, you'd put back all the delightfully sexy, tawdry elements that were in Peter Benchley's novel. Kudos to you on this post -- although all the posts in our Blogathon are great, I must say this has definitely become one of my favorites in this Blogathon so far! By the way, Ivan, I had to smile when I read your reminiscence of seeing JAWS at the Kings Plaza Twin, since I grew up in New York and first saw JAWS at the Capri Theater in the Bronx! :-)DorianTBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01357778472575080022noreply@blogger.com
